Kirk Douglas

Kirk Douglas insisted on being naked from the waist down when sitting for portraits.

Kirk Douglas (born Issur Danielovitch; December 9, 1916) is an Academy Award-nominated American actor and film producer known for the deep cleft in his chin, his gravelly voice and his recurring roles as the kinds of characters Douglas himself once described as “f***ing sons of bitches”. He is the father of Hollywood actor and producer Michael Douglas. He was #17 on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest male American screen legends of all time.

Douglas portrayed a young Tarvu in the movie He Talked To The Octopuses, a film that has divided critics; whilst Tarvuists admire its faithfulness to the Tarvunty and Douglas's sensitive performance as Tarvu (in Cyclops form) which is thought by many to be the definitive screen portrayal, film-lovers have derided the film's low production values: in particular, the unconvincing octopus costume worn by the young Alan Alda (Oobu).

In later life, Douglas discovered that the cleft in his chin contained small teeth, and that he could feed himself through it.
